Great video but you can actually get even less crop than 1.35 as the BMPCC4k doesn't have a crop of 2 but rather about 1.9 With a *0.64, you'll get about a 1.21 crop

16:20 H.265 has many generations of decoding and re-encoding lossy quality due its 4:2:0 RGB vs. ProRes has generation of decoding and re-encoding lossless quality due its 4:2:2 RGB.

Proxy is used when editing as a stand in for the higher quality source files… Some editing software will let you render your final output using the higher quality source files, but scrubbing with the proxies as much faster.

Man, very good, but I have questions for example about alpha channel in 4444 xq, do I need it? For now I have a7s3, atomos ninja V, and only prores raw hq shooting I like it so much. Final Cut only for WB, EXP, ISO correction. Next export to 4444 xq without slog/sgamut3 raw conversion wide gamut rec2020 for Davinci resolve what CST I need to set IN (colour space and gamma)? Out as I understand will be rec709. Also I have compressor export to probes 4444XQ (with/without) Alpha channel (what I need to choose)? Thanx !

Very well done video and well explained. The short version is that H.265 is a display format. It is not really an "acquisition format" for editing. You can watch the original footage, and in that case it is really impressive, particularly given its size. It is also great as a display format for all sorts of devices and situations at the end of the whole ProRes editing process.

great video, but fyi hasselblad was bought out by DJI !!, so at 11:27 thats why the skin tone of the 4D is outstanding, as Hasselblad uses Sony sensors, of course, but they tweak the colour science, why the shots look so vouge like!!

Wonderful video! However would never shoot outside of 800 or 12800 on Sony. Also I love the tech comparison… it’s the one we’ve been missing. To me it’s most about the lenses and I haven’t seen an image from this camera that I really loved and it’s now apparent it HAS to be due to the glass. That’s the deal breaker. The best sensor in the world can’t make those horrible lenses look great…. You’d have to have a whole team of teams in post work like on Garland’s Civil War.

Even if i shoot with a mirrorless camera instead of an iPhone, is it better to convert the videos shot with h.264 or h.265 to proress422 or 422HQ before editing?

What if its not BRAW that is semi-denoising the image, but its ProResRaw that adds noise? I always felt ProRes was too noisy.

love this prediction, I would bet you're right about apple final cut adding braw support because of this. I can only hope that blackmagic adds support for prores raw in resolve as well!!

Can you do an 'inception shot' without the gimbal?

Nothing stopping Final Cut from having braw right now. Blackmagic have not made it proprietary like ProResRAW. I hope both codecs are freely available in all edit software.
